QueerSpace is a
volunteer-led organization based on collective planning and action
which serves the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans Community of
Belfast and Northern Ireland by raising its visibility, supporting its
activities, providing it with
resources and
facilitating
communication
while adhering to the principles of community orientation, freedom of
identity, ethical funding and accessibility.
On Wednesday 14 November 2012, PA MagLochlainn, our dear friend and
QueerSpace member, died following an illness.
PA worked tirelessly for LGBT people and our rights for many, many years.
He was well-known to all in our community and beyond through his
commitment to a great number of LGBT organisations and willingness to
represent LGBT perspectives to the media in Northern Ireland.
The LGBT community misses his intellectual rigour, sense of fun and
above all his wisdom and compassion.
A Service of Remembrance for PA MagLochlainn will take place on Sunday 14
April at 3.30pm in All Souls' Church, Elmwood Avenue, Belfast. All are
welcome to attend.

Singers are proud to be performing at this service for their friend
and steadfast supporter.
We celebrated
our 15th Birthday in March 2013 with a spectacular party event - thanks to
everyone who joined us!
The party took place in the
upstairs bar in the
Sunflower,
Union Street.
Gareth and Niall compered the
event, congratulating QueerSpace on achieving the milestone of 15 years
and reading out messages of support from friends overseas.
We then honoured our
Queers of the Year for 2013:

Fitzpatrick
Two special and selfless
people
whose voluntary time, effort, vision and commitment have benefited our
community.
Following
a tasty buffet, it was time to dance the night away to fab tunes from
DJ Ruth.
Special thanks to everyone who joined us on the
night to celebrate our 15th birthday - you all made it a night to
remember.

Unite
against Hate is a campaign which aims to see an end to hate crime
in Northern Ireland.
The campaign brings together partners including the
PSNI, and the
Community
Relations Council with those in wider society such as the community
sector, sporting bodies and the media. Its objectives include promoting
diversity and creating a climate of zero tolerance for hate crime and
discrimination.
QueerSpace wholeheartedly supports the Unite Against Hate
Campaign. We will continue to work with all sectors of society
to combat homophobia and all other forms of hate.
We can all play our part in creating a Northern
Ireland society which is peaceful, inclusive and fair for all. Start today
by signing the petition and pledging your support. Together, we can
make a difference.
